Provision of humanitarian aid to Serbia
PRESS RELEASE
Russia is very anxiously monitoring the development of the situation in Serbia, where there is a severe humanitarian situation as a result of an unprecedented flood. Many populated areas were flooded, and about 25 thousand people, including all the population of Obrenovac and some other settlements, were evacuated. There are also casualties.
At the request of the official Belgrade, a unit of rescuers from the Russian Emergencies Ministry is participating in the rescue operations. Over 100 tons of humanitarian cargo were delivered to Serbia. The Russian-Serbian humanitarian centre in Niš is playing an important role.
With regard to the wishes of a large number of Russian nationals to give adequate help to the Serbian people in overcoming the consequences of this natural disaster, we would like to inform everyone that the Embassy of Serbia in Moscow is coordinating the collection of donations and the acceptance of humanitarian aid provided by private persons and organisations. Details of the respective bank accounts and contact information are indicated on the Embassy'swebsite (http://www.moskva.mfa.gov.rs/rus/).
