On September 14, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov met with Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Nobutaka Machimura in New York in the course of the work of the 60th session of the UN General Assembly.
During the talk, the sides discussed a number of issues in bilateral relations in the light of an upcoming visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Japan, paying special attention to tasks in the qualitative improvement of commercial, economic and investment cooperation, above all in high technology industries.
An exchange of views on international and regional problems took place. There were considered issues relating to UN activities, the situation in the AP region, including the six-party talks being held in Beijing on denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and WMD nonproliferation problems in a global context.
