PRESS RELEASE

Alarming reports have come in from India that terrorists carried out cruel attacks on civilians in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Thus, more than 30 people were seized and shot dead, and about ten others wounded on the night of April 29-30 in several settlements in Doda and Udhampur districts. On May 1 an attack was made on a police station in the state's administrative center Shrinagar, leaving one person dead and three injured.

The Russian side deeply sympathizes with those who have suffered as a result of the terrorist acts and the relatives and friends of those that died and expresses outrage over these mindless and bloody acts of violence, of which civilians became victims. It is obvious that the terrorists are pursuing the aim of thwarting the dialogue between India and Pakistan and of preventing upcoming talks between the leadership of India and the leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
