Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov

On August 15, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov at the initiative of the Azerbaijani side.

The foreign ministers exchanged views on the most urgent international and regional issues. They focused on the need to implement in practical terms the steps the sides had agreed upon in principle to deescalate tensions around Nagorno-Karabakh as soon as possible, including unblocking humanitarian routes such as the Lachin corridor.

The ministers emphasised that implementing the entire package of trilateral agreements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia was the only way to reach a sustainable normalisation of Baku-Yerevan relations. They expressed their common view that it is counterproductive to replace practical work in this area with political and propaganda actions.
