Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with former President of South Africa Thabo Mbeki

On November 27, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with former President of the Republic of South Africa Thabo Mbeki, who arrived in Moscow to take part in the ninth Primakov Readings International Scientific and Expert Forum.

During the conversation, various aspects of the bilateral strategic partnership were touched on, including strengthening political, trade, economic and cultural ties. The two countries’ focus on continuing close coordination of their actions in the UN, BRICS, the G20 and other authoritative platforms was noted.

In discussing current issues on the international agenda, emphasis was placed on the developments in Ukraine and the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
