Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Abbas Araghchi

On July 6, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro.

The officials coordinated their positions on regional and international issues and touched upon key issues of the bilateral agenda.

The Russian side once again condemned unprovoked Israeli and US military strikes against Iranian territory, conducted in violation of the UN Charter and norms of international law, including attacks on facilities of Iran’s nuclear power infrastructure, which are covered by IAEA guarantees.

The ministers reaffirmed the importance of resolving the crisis around the Iranian nuclear programme solely by political and diplomatic methods. Moscow voiced its readiness to help find mutually acceptable solutions, including in the context of the specific initiatives advanced by President of Russia Vladimir Putin some time earlier.
