Comment by the Information and Press Department on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Azerbaijan
On November 20, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will make an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Sergey Lavrov will hold talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov to exchange opinions on a broad range of issues on bilateral, international and regional agendas.
Azerbaijan is Russia’s important strategic partner in the Caucasus region. This year, Russia and Azerbaijan mark 25 years of their diplomatic relations. Bilateral cooperation is based on years of friendship and mutual respect, as well as the coincidence or similarity of views on key regional and international subjects.
The tone of Russian-Azerbaijani relations is set by the top-level political dialogue between their leaders. Regular friendly contacts between the Russian and Azerbaijani presidents create conditions for the rapid development of bilateral relations, prompt settlement of problems and coordination of activities on regional and international venues. The parties also maintain intensive contacts at other levels too, including between their parliaments, as well as active cultural and humanitarian ties.
Acting in close cooperation with other members of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia has been working to assist parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to find mutually acceptable peaceful solutions.
