On the 4th September, in Djibouti, the official ceremony of the transfer of the food aid given by the Russian Federation to the government of this country took place. It was rendered by the corresponding target contribution for the sum of one million US dollars to the fund of the United Nations World food programme.

840 metric tons of the foodstuffs, which will cover the two-month requirements of 23 thousand persons, i.e. about 20 % of the citizens of Djibouti which have suffered from consequences of the drought in the Horn of Africa region, which was the strongest during the last 60 years, were transferred to the Djibouti party.

Starting from the moment of the beginning of the humanitarian crisis in subregion in 2011, the total amount of the Russian aid to Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Kenya has exceeded 11.5 mln. US dollars .

Russia intends to continue taking active part in the coordinated international efforts on the rendering of humanitarian aid to the needy countries of Africa.
