Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam a message of greetings on the occasion of a national holiday of India - Republic Day.

The message reads in part:

"Our countries are traditionally close friends and partners. Russia and India are united by coinciding approaches to key international problems and by a sincere striving towards close cooperation in the matter of implementing the extensive agenda of bilateral cooperation. I am convinced that the multifaceted strategic partnership relations will continue to be strengthened for the mutual benefit of our countries and peoples."
