Regarding Assassination of Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar

STATEMENT BY THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION
Lakshman Kadirgamar, Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister, was killed in Colombo on the night of August 12-13. By decree of President Chandrika Kumaratunga, a state of emergency has been declared in the country.
Russia strongly condemns this wanton terrorist act which led to the killing of an eminent political figure who did much to strengthen the national unity of Sri Lanka. The organizers and perpetrators of this cruel murder deserve the sternest punishment.
The Russian side expresses deeply-felt condolences to the kith and kin of Lakshman Kadirgamar, the leaders and people of Sri Lanka.
