On 6th Fort Ross Dialogue
The 6th Fort Ross Dialogue took place in San Francisco on October 14−16. This Russia-US conference is named after the historical settlement of Russian pioneers in what today is California. The event was attended by a Russian delegation that included leaders of the Vologda and Tyumen regions, the Federal Archival Agency, and officials from Transneft, Sovkomflot and Renova, the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Russian Embassy in the US.
The delegation passed along a message of greetings from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to the Native American tribe of Kashaya Pomo on the 200th anniversary of the signing of a friendly agreement with Russia. Invoking the history of extensive and positive Russian-US cooperation, forum participants discussed prospects for improving bilateral relations in the current circumstances. Opportunities for international cooperation and developing closer ties in the economic, energy, environmental, cultural and humanitarian, scientific and educational areas were also discussed.
On the sidelines of the conference, Vologda Region Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov and Acting Deputy Governor of the Tyumen Region Andrey Shalnev met with California Governor Jerry Brown and former Defence Secretary William Perry. The Renova charity foundation sponsored an exhibition as part of the Russian Geographical Society’s international photographic contest, The Most Beautiful Country, which celebrates Russia’s natural riches.
