On events in Israel on the occasion of the Day of the Unknown Soldier

On December 3, in Netanya, on the occasion of the Day of the Unknown Soldier, Ambassador of Russia to Israel Anatoly Viktorov took part in the ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers at the Monument to the Victory of the Red Army over Nazi Germany.

In his address, Anatoly Viktorov recalled the unparalleled courage of our ancestors who strangled the Nazi hydra. He honored the memory of all those who fell on the battlefields during the tragic and cruel years of World War II and the Great Patriotic War, went missing in battles for the freedom and independence of their Motherland, and stopped the tragedy of the Holocaust. He assured that their great feat will be passed from generation to generation and preserved forever. Noted that Russia, the CIS countries and Israel are united by a common memory and respectful attitude towards the heroism of fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers.

Those present observed a minute of silence in memory of the fallen Red Army soldiers and all victims of Nazism.

The ceremony was attended by Ambassador of Belarus to Israel Evgeny Vorobyov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan Daulet Yemberdiyev, Honorary Consul of Belarus in the Southern District of Israel Eitan Kariv, Honorary Consul of Kyrgyzstan in Israel Dmitry Shkaf, Chairman of the Coordinating Council of Organizations of Russian-Speaking Compatriots of Israel Max Perelshtein, Chairman of the All-Israeli Association of Refugees and Holocaust Survivors Yehuda Davidov, Acting Chairman of the Israeli Union of Veterans of World War II – Fighters against Nazism Donat Rappoport, representatives of Netanya municipality, the heads and activists of the public associations "Israeli Anti-Fascist Movement", "Strength in Unity" and "Bridge of Memory", the Union of Liquidators of the Consequences of the Chernobyl Disaster, the Committee of Disabled War Veterans, diplomats, compatriots, journalists.

On the same day, in Jerusalem, diplomats from the Russian Embassy and employees of the Russian House in Israel laid flowers at the Memorial to the heroic defenders and residents of besieged Leningrad "Candle of Remembrance". Also participating were the director of the Antonin Kapustin Foundation Ruslan Ashurbeyli, representatives of the Union of World War II Veterans – Fighters against Nazism, the Israeli Association of Heroic Defenders and Residents of Besieged Leningrad, and the Jerusalem Association of Holocaust Survivors. A minute of silence was declared in memory of all those who died during the Great Patriotic War.
