Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar
On February 20, 2025, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a meeting with Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg.
The parties shared the opinion of the high level of the dialogue between Moscow and New Delhi as well as the results of practical cooperation in various areas. They confirmed the directions of further efforts in accordance with the agreements reached by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meetings in Moscow and Kazan in 2024. The ministers discussed in detail the schedule of forthcoming political contacts, including the planned Russian-Indian summit to be held this year, in preparation for which the foreign ministers agreed to hold a number of meetings.
The ministers had an engaged exchange of views on the situation in the Asia-Pacific region and on Eurasian security issues. They coordinated their approaches to issues related to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and BRICS, and also discussed developments around Ukraine, including the approaches of various countries.
Sergey Lavrov briefed his counterpart on the main results of recent contacts with US representatives in Riyadh.
