On September 9, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan Barnaba Marial Benjamin, who is in Moscow on a working visit.

During the talks the ministers emphasised a mutual desire to deepen bilateral foreign policy cooperation on different international venues, primarily in the United Nations, to promote trade and economic cooperation, including in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons, agriculture and the implementation of large infrastructure projects, and to develop humanitarian and cultural ties.

Having expressed the hope that the peace agreement signed by the parties to the South Sudanese conflict last August will be strictly fulfilled, Mr Lavrov noted the importance of the active efforts of the African community on settling crises on the continent in cooperation with the UN.

For his part, Mr Barnaba told Mr Lavrov about the efforts made by the South Sudanese Government to achieve stabilisation in the country. He thanked Russia for its consistent support of the peace process.

 During the discussion of intra-Sudanese relations, Mr Lavrov wished his colleague success at his meeting in Moscow on September 10 with his counterpart from the Republic of Sudan in the interests of promoting good-neighbourly relations between Juba and Khartoum.
