Russian humanitarian mission to the Republic of Cameroon
From 15 to 25 October, a Russian humanitarian mission made up of 12 medical specialists visited the Republic of Cameroon. The visit was organised and coordinated by the Hon. Sholban Kara-ool, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Coordinator of the Friendship Group with the Parliament of the Republic of Cameroon, with the active personal participation of the Hon. Dimitry Kuznetsov, member of the Friendship Group, and the support of the Presidential Grant Foundation.
The Russian mission was carried out within the framework of the humanitarian programme ‘Volunteers of Peace’ and in partnership with the World Christian Association of Parliamentarians. The Russian Embassy in Yaoundé and the Cameroonian association of graduates of Soviet and Russian higher education establishments ‘Medvipouskniki’ provided practical assistance for the activities of Russian medical specialists in the country. On 15 October, representatives of the mission were received by Mr Yves Mathieu Zoa Nanga, Inspector General of Medical and Paramedical Services at Cameroon's Ministry of Public Health, and by Mr Pierre Joseph Fouda, Director of Yaoundé Central Hospital.
During their stay in Cameroon, the Russian doctors treated more than 250 patients at Yaoundé Central Hospital, Ngaoundéré Hospital and Idool Health Centre, provided humanitarian aid and organised training seminars in obstetrics, neonatology, oncology, dentistry and maxillofacial surgery for more than 200 Cameroonian healthcare workers. The Russian humanitarian mission received a positive review in the local media. They commented that the Cameroonian graduates of Russian medical institutions have in-depth knowledge and are making a significant contribution to the development of the national healthcare system.
