Press release on Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov’s meeting with French candidate for the post of UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay
On September 14, Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov met with one of the candidates for the post of UNESCO Director-General, Ms Audrey Azoulay (France).
Mr Gatilov pointed out the high standards and sustainable development of Russia-UNESCO relations in all the main areas of operation of this leading humanitarian organisation.
Ms Audrey Azoulay presented her vision of possible UNESCO reform and of the efforts that should be taken to address the tasks facing the organisation.
The incumbent UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, will complete her second term this year. The next UNESCO Director-General will be elected at the 39th General Conference this autumn.
Nine candidates have been nominated for the post of UNESCO Director-General by Azerbaijan, China, Egypt, France, Guatemala, Iraq, Lebanon, Vietnam and Qatar.
