Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at talks with Foreign Minister of Iceland Gudlaugur Thor Thordarson, Moscow, November 26, 2019
Mr Minister,
Colleagues,
We are delighted to welcome you to Moscow. According to statistics, this is the first visit to Russia by a foreign minister of Iceland since 2011.
Mr Minister, we have met with you several times before, including on the sidelines of the Arctic Council meetings and the Arctic events held in Russia.
Russian-Icelandic relations are, on the whole, developing positively despite the complicated international conditions. Our trade and cooperation in the economy, investment and high technology, as well as at the Arctic Council, are developing apace and have positive growth prospects. We are working on a number of draft agreements to strengthen the legal framework of our cooperation. I hope we will be able to hold an in-depth discussion on all of these topics today.
Once again, welcome to Moscow.
