Comment by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the submission of a draft lawto the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada “On preventive detention of a person (persons)”
On the 17 March a draft law "On preventive detention of a person (persons)" was submitted to the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada at the initiative of the party "Batkivshchyna".
This law draft law envisages the possibility of detaining Ukrainian nationals, who, according to the authors of this draft law, are a threat to the national interests of the state and the community, as well as the territorial integrity of the state. The introduction of a temporary procedure for preventive detention of persons, "who are involved in the preparation and committing of crimes against the foundations of Ukrainian security" is also envisaged.
Russia is waiting for the reaction to such an initiative by the new Ukrainian leaders from western partners, who "care so much" about the development of democratic processes, including in the post-Soviet space. We are also waiting for a proper reaction from the human rights organisations of Russia, Ukraine and other foreign countries.
