Question: Berlin has adopted a new National Security Strategy, which states that Moscow is now the number one threat. Is it possible for a country that participated in the unification of Germany to be that?

Sergey Lavrov: I find it hard to comment on the actions, statements, or documents adopted by today’s German politicians. They are not based either on logic or on the interests of Germany and the German people.

Some time ago, responding to a criticism of Olaf Scholz cabinet’s policy which had led to a major increase in the cost of living and worsening of the socioeconomic situation in the country, Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said her voters were impacted, but the government had to do so for the sake of Ukraine. Berlin keeps saying that it is upholding European values in Ukraine.

If Germany believes that returning to Nazism that is now flourishing in Ukraine is a value, then it’s a very sad and dangerous turn of events.
