Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to the United Arab Emirates
Between August 28-29, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov paid a working visit to the United Arab Emirates. He was received by Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan. He had a meeting with UAE National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Co-Chairman of the Russia-UAE Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation.
During their contacts and conversations, the parties focused on topical matters concerning the bilateral agenda as well as key issues of the situation in the Middle East and North Africa. Moscow and Abu Dhabi confirmed their mutual striving to continue purposeful joint efforts to give an impetus to the multifaceted Russia-UAE relations. They noted the importance of effectively utilising available positive achievements in the trade and economic field, investment and other mutually beneficial cooperation spheres, furthering inter-parliamentary ties and expanding cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
While discussing the subject of the Middle East, they focused on the task of resolving conflicts and crisis situations that persist in this strategically important region of the world as quickly as possible. In this context, Russia and the UAE agree on the need to unfailingly honour norms of international law, respect state sovereignty and the territorial integrity of states and consolidate the efforts of the international community in combating terrorism and radical ideology. The parties agreed to continue close foreign-policy coordination between Moscow and Abu Dhabi in the interest of maintaining regional and global stability.
