Day of Slavic Literacy and Culture Held in Bahrain
On May 26, Gulf University hosted a cultural event marking the Day of Slavic Literacy and Culture, organized by the Russian-speaking Community “Compatriots” and the Bahrain-Russian Friendship Society, with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
H.E. Dr. Alexey Skosyrev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Bahrain, delivered opening remarks, highlighting the importance of preserving both written and oral traditions. He also emphasized the role of joint cultural initiatives in strengthening humanitarian and intercultural ties between Russia and Bahrain.
The program featured lecture by Elena Shtulman, Head of the “Heritage of the Nation” Autonomous Nonprofit Organization, on the origins of proverbs and sayings, as well as a presentation by Alexandra Melnikova on the roots of the Slavic alphabet.
A highlight of the event was a creative workshop on illustrating proverbs and sayings, inspired by the forthcoming book "Proverbs and Sayings of Bahrain and Russia" by Russian Orientalist Sergey Romanov. The workshop was led by artists Mahmood Al-Mulla, Alexandra Novik, and Abbas Al-Mousawi. Participants engaged in visual interpretations that blended elements of Russian and Bahraini folklore, fostering artistic dialogue across cultures.
