Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Congolese Abroad of the Republic of the Congo Jean-Claude Gakosso
On November 8, in Sochi, on the margins of the first ministerial conference held as part of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Congolese Abroad of the Republic of the Congo Jean-Claude Gakosso.
The ministers discussed a range of issues related to strengthening of the traditionally friendly Russian-Congolese ties, including building up mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation with a focus on joint implementation of promising projects in energy, creation of infrastructure facilities, use of peaceful atom, and countering infectious diseases.
Moscow and Brazzaville also confirmed their unwavering commitment to deepening political dialogue on pressing regional and international issues at the UN and other multilateral platforms. The ministers noted that Russia and the Republic of the Congo share a similar vision of the international processes that are designed to form a fairer polycentric world based on mutual respect, the sovereign equality of states, the supremacy of international law, and the provisions of the UN Charter.
