Press release on the launch of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum
On November 9, the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), under the auspices of the United Nations, opened in Tunis. Taking part in the forum are 75 Libyan politicians delegated from all the country’s districts. President of Tunisia Kais Saied and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres delivered welcoming remarks via videoconference. At the organisers’ invitation, representatives of over 20 states directly involved in the international efforts to promote the Libyan settlement process, including Russia, watched the opening ceremony via videoconference.
Russia welcomes the launch of an intra-Libyan dialogue in the capital of Tunisia. It aims to end the country’s divide into conflicting sides, overcome the lasting military and political crisis, and form new effective national official agencies that can ensure the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Libya. Russia wishes success to the forum and urges its participants to put the interests of the Libyan people beyond partisan and regional considerations.
