Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades

On September 19, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades on the sidelines on the 72^nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The officials considered the prospects of further Russia-Cyprus cooperation in various areas and emphasised the mutual interest in continuing the political dialogue and constructive cooperation at international platforms, including the UN.

The officials also exchanged opinions on pressing international issues, including Russia-EU dialogue topics and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The parties discussed in detail the current state of Cyprus settlement talks. The Russian side reaffirmed its support for efforts to reunify the island and its commitment to a comprehensive, viable and just solution to the Cyprus problem based on the relevant UN resolutions for the benefit of the people of Cyprus.
