Press release on general elections in Namibia
On November 27, the presidential and parliamentary elections were held in Namibia. According to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), which announced the election results on November 30, Hage Gottfried Geingob, the incumbent president and the candidate of the South-West Africa’s Peoples Organisation (SWAPO), won the presidential election with 56.3 percent of the vote.
As many as 65.5 percent of those who took part in the National Assembly election cast their ballots for the ruling party, SWAPO. International observers, including those from the African Union, noted that the elections took place in a peaceful atmosphere and were transparent and free.
Moscow welcomes the successful completion of this political event which was of major importance for Namibia and its people. We see this as a huge step towards the sustainable development of the Namibian society.
