On September 12, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson at the UK initiative.
The officials discussed developments around Syria. Boris Johnson welcomed the Russian-US agreement reached at Sergey Lavrov’s Geneva meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry on September 9 and expressed willingness to facilitate its implementation.
Answering a question from Mr Johnson, who plans to visit Kiev soon, Sergey Lavrov put forth Russia’s opinion on the implementation of the Minsk Package of Measures.
While discussing the bilateral agenda, the ministers expressed satisfaction with the nascent improvement of bilateral ties at various levels and noted the positive effect of the meeting held between President of Russia Vladimir Putin and UK Prime Minister Theresa May on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, China, on September 4.
Sergey Lavrov and Boris Johnson have agreed to meet on the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
