Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s message of greetings to participants in the Russo-Japanese Public Conference marking the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Soviet-Japanese Joint Declaration
I greet all taking part in this Russo-Japanese Public Conference marking the 60th anniversary of the Soviet-Japanese Joint Declaration.
This Declaration’s signing, which ended the state of war and restored diplomatic relations between our countries, was a major historic event and important milestone on the road to steadily developing bilateral ties. The document, which was ratified by both countries’ parliaments, continues today to provide the legal foundation for relations between our countries.
Russia will continue its active efforts to develop bilateral cooperation, including political dialogue, trade and economic relations, cultural and humanitarian ties and scientific exchanges. We hope that our upcoming high-level contacts will give further impetus to our work together.
I am sure that your meeting will make a great contribution to strengthening mutual understanding between the Russian and Japanese publics.
I wish you fruitful discussions and all the very best.
SERGEY LAVROV
