Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Angola
On March 5, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Luanda where he was received by President of the Republic of Angola Joao Lourenco and had talks with Foreign Minister Manuel Augusto.
During the meetings and conversations, which were held in the spirit of friendship and understanding characteristic of Russia-Angola relations, both countries’ representatives reaffirmed their commitment to boosting multifaceted trade, economic and investment ties, as well as ties in the defence industry, cultural sphere and beyond.
While discussing a number of current issues on the international and regional agenda, they noted that Russia and Angola’s positions on key issues of the day were close or overlapped, and stressed their mutual interest in further aligning the foreign policy efforts of the two countries in the UN and other international venues.
Sergey Lavrov unveiled a monument on the premises of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Luanda to Soviet and Russian soldiers who had fought with the people of Angola for the freedom and independence of the country.
