Acting Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Meets NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer

On September 24, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, met with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer in New York on the sidelines of the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly.

The state of affairs and cooperation prospects in the Russia-NATO Council format were discussed and the existing issues in Russian relations with the alliance were examined, above all in the fields of conventional arms control and missile defense, as also in connection with NATO enlargement plans.

Sergey Lavrov and Jaap de Hoop Scheffer also exchanged views on a number of pressing international and regional issues.
