Press release on Russian-Chinese consultations on Syria

On December 19, Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin held consultations with Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Syrian Issue Xie Xiaoyan.

The officials had an in-depth discussion on the situation in Syria, including the developments on the ground and measures taken to address the pressing humanitarian tasks. They also discussed the political process in the context of launching direct intra-Syrian dialogue within the Constitutional Committee in Geneva.

The parties agreed to strengthen the coordination of efforts and cooperation in order to achieve lasting stabilisation and security in and around Syria.
