Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with President of Iraq Barham Salih

On October 10, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke by telephone with President of the Republic of Iraq Barham Salih.

The sides discussed the developments in north-eastern Syria. They agreed that a lasting stabilisation must be attained in the area east of the Euphrates River based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic through dialogue between Damascus and Ankara, as well as between the Syrian authorities and representatives of the Syrian Kurds. It was pointed out that Russia and Iraq are ready to facilitate these contacts.

The sides agreed to continue to exchange opinions and coordinate their countries’ positions.
