Press release on the World Thematic Conference of Russian Compatriots Living Abroad “Female Compatriots and Succession of Generations”
The World Thematic Conference of Russian Compatriots Living Abroad “Female Compatriots and Succession of Generations” was held in Moscow on October 30-31. The conference was attended by 155 Russian community leaders and activists, prominent representatives of our diaspora from 93 countries, Russian Federal Assembly members, heads and representatives of the federal and regional executive authorities, well-known Russian females from among political and public figures, entrepreneurs, teachers of Russian philology, scientists and journalists.
Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko noted during her address to the forum that the women’s communities abroad are playing a major role in building the bridges of friendship between countries, in strengthening trust and mutual understanding of our compatriots and friends of Russia, and are a driving force of the international movement of compatriots. “The protection of compatriots’ rights has undoubtedly been, is and will be of great importance when it comes to Russian foreign policy,” said Valentina Matviyenko. She added that the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have secured an increase in the financing of the Foundation for Supporting and Protecting the Rights of Compatriots Living Abroad.
Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Government Commission on Compatriots Living Abroad Sergey Lavrov sent a message of greetings to the conference participants, in which he pointed out the contribution of women compatriots to the continuity of generations, the preservation of the Russian language and culture in families and bringing up children in the spirit of love to their historical Motherland.
The conference helped further unlock the creative and intellectual potential of women compatriots and to increase the opportunities for their self-actualisation for the benefit of the multiethnic and multireligious Russian World. Special attention was paid at the conference to the role of women compatriots in upholding the historical truth, and encouraging the moral and patriotic upbringing of the younger generation, including in the preparations for and the holding of commemorative events, by foreign communities, for the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, including the Immortal Regiment.
At the conference, a protocol on cooperation was signed by the Council of the Eurasian Women’s Forum under the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly and the World Coordination Council of the Russian Compatriots. The conference participants decided to join the activities of the Eurasian Women’s Forum and the work on the establishment of an international NGO of Russian-speaking females with a view to develop ties between the communities of women compatriots all over the world.
The 34th meeting of the World Coordination Council was held on the eve of the forum.
Active compatriots were given awards at the close of the event, and a final resolution was adopted.
