Comment by the Information and Press Department on the situation with UC Rusal’s assets in Guinea
Moscow is concerned about the disassembling of the railway tracks at the port of Conakry in Guinea, which is part of the transport infrastructure of the UC Rusal’s Friguia Bauxite and Alumina Complex. This poses a threat to the restoration of the enterprise as agreed with the government of Guinea.
We strongly call for termination of this destructive activity by dishonest competitors as it damages the Russian-Guinean cooperation in trade and the economy, and expect that the Guinean officials take urgent and overarching measures to observe the legal interests of the largest Russian investor in Guinea’s national economy based on the current agreements between UC Rusal and the government of Guinea. These measures must comply with international law and the Republic of Guinea’s obligations to international financial institutions.
We believe that the traditionally friendly relations between Russia and Guinea and Russia’s comprehensive support for the Guinean state and people, including social and humanitarian aid, guarantee a constructive and mutually beneficial partnership between UC Rusal and Guinea in the long term.
