Press release on Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s meeting with Prime Minister Omar Sharmarke of the Federal Republic of Somalia
On October 1, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke on the sidelines of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in New York City.
The officials discussed the process of settlement in Somalia and stressed the need for the Somali Federal Government and the international community to continue their consistent efforts to establish peace in the country. They expressed their support for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). They also addressed the prospects for Russian-Somali cooperation in the trade, economic and other areas.
