Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s conversation with President of the 76th UN General Assembly session Abdulla Shahid

On September 23, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with President of the 76th UN General Assembly session Abdulla Shahid.

The officials discussed in detail various aspects of the UN General Assembly’s activities and a number of issues that were reviewed there. They noted the importance of the UN General Assembly’s unifying agenda, consideration for the interests of all its members and the strict observance of the principle of “the division of labour” between the main agencies of the world organisation.

During the meeting, Mr Lavrov and Mr Shahid reaffirmed their mutual commitment to the central coordinating role of the UN in world affairs, and emphasised the need to strictly observe the goals and principles of its Charter. Mr Lavrov expressed Russia’s willingness to do all it could to enhance the efficiency and authority of the General Assembly.
