Opening remarks by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola Tete Antonio held on the sidelines of the first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, Sochi, November 9, 2024

Mister Minister,

Dear friend,

We are glad to see you in Sochi at the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi.

I would like to congratulate you on the Independence Day to be held on November 11. Next year we will celebrate two memorable dates: 50 years of independence of the Republic of Angola, and on the same day diplomatic relations were established between the Soviet Union and the Republic of Angola. Fron that time on, these relations have been progressing based on respect for each other’s interests, friendly relations between our peoples irrespective of fluctuations of the geopolitical situation.  

I expect we will discuss bilateral affairs today and, among other things, how to celebrate the upcoming anniversary of your independence and our diplomatic relations.

During our contacts we will traditionally pay attention to the situation on the African continent and international affairs in general.
