Comment by the Information and Press Department on the status of the peace process in Mali
On May 15, representatives of the Malian Government, some of the insurgent groups and international mediators met in the Malian capital, Bamako, to sign the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation, which had previously been initialed by all the parties to the conflict. However, the Coordination of Azawad Movements refused to sign the document at this stage, citing the need for further consultations.
We consider the agreement reached an important step towards stabilising Mali, establishing peace and harmony in this African country, and terminating the armed confrontation.
