Press release on the CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting

On October 12, Sergey Lavrov took part in a regular CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting.

The foreign ministers of the CIS countries exchanged views on current international and regional issues and determined key areas of CIS cooperation for the future. They focused on the developments in and around Ukraine. Mr Lavrov told his colleagues in detail about the course of the special military operation and the results of the referendums on the liberated territories and their accession to the Russian Federation.

Following the meeting, the participants adopted important decisions aimed at promoting integration in the fields of law enforcement, culture, people-to-people contacts and human rights. They endorsed a provision on a commission of children’s rights ombudsmen of the CIS countries, which is intended to facilitate closer ties between such officials.

The ministers also approved the plan for multi-level foreign ministry consultations in the CIS format in 2023.

A number of adopted decisions will be submitted for consideration to the CIS Heads of State Council on October 14 of this year and the CIS Heads of Government Council on October 28 of this year.
