Press Release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s talks with Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian
On March 29, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was in Moscow on a working visit, during which he had talks with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The ministers discussed the entire range of issues related to the further strengthening of multifaceted cooperation between Russia and Iran, including its political, economic, scientific, technological, cultural and humanitarian aspects. They focused on the implementation of joint transport and energy projects and the agreements reached following the 16th meeting of the Permanent Russia-Iran Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which was held in Grozny on November 1, 2022.
The sides noted with satisfaction the stable and dynamic development of bilateral relations in all areas, including at the government, parliamentary, interagency and regional level, as well as between their state and commercial bodies.
The ministers reaffirmed their resolve to continue to work actively together and to coordinate their activities on international platforms, as well as exchanged views on the current global and regional issues.
They highlighted the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear programme and discussed the current developments in the South Caucasus, Afghanistan and Syria. They reaffirmed their commitment to continue working in the Astana Format, which has proved its efficiency as a unique negotiations platform on the Syrian issue.
The Russian minister welcomed the agreements on the normalisation of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia and expressed hope that their implementation would facilitate the development of a positive atmosphere in the Persian Gulf area and stronger stability and security in the Middle East as a whole.
They stressed the importance of effective bilateral contacts and a regular exchange of views on issues of mutual interests.
