During the talks the two officials reaffirmed Moscow and Muscat’s commitment to the further development of Russian-Omani relations, which have traditionally been friendly. Sergey Lavrov and Sayyid Badr Albusaidi supported the efforts to maintain a pro-active political dialogue, strengthen inter-parliamentary contacts, intensify the exchange of delegations and step up cooperation between the two countries’ business communities. They also expressed the common opinion that amid global geopolitical transformations and the volatility of the world economy, efforts to ensure sustainable and positive dynamics in mutual trade have become increasingly important.
The two foreign ministers thoroughly compared notes on key issues on the international and regional agendas with a focus on developments in Yemen and Syria, and the status of the Middle East settlement process. An agreement was reached to continue to coordinate the approaches by Moscow and Muscat to facilitate the settlement of numerous regional conflicts through an inclusive dialogue, the parties to which should enjoy equal rights and which should include consideration for the legitimate interests and concerns of all parties involved.
Considering the outcome of the 6th ministerial meeting of the Russia-GCC strategic dialogue, which took place the day before in Moscow, with Oman currently holding the chairmanship of the council, the involved parties had an in-depth discussion on the goal to put in place mechanisms for joint response to existing challenges and threats in the Persian Gulf region in the context of conceptual proposals put forward by Russia for shaping a collective security system in this part of the world.
