Press release on foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s participation in the ministerial meeting of the guarantor states of the Astana Process
On December 7, foreign ministers of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, of the Islamic Republic of Iran Abbas Araghchi and of the Republic of Türkiye Hakan Fidan met on the sidelines of the 22nd Doha Forum.
During the conversation, which was later joined by UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen, the ministers expressed grave concern about the dangerous escalation in the Syrian Arab Republic, triggered by a large-scale incursion of armed groups in northwestern Syria. At the same time, they reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as to UN Security Council resolution 2254.
The ministers underscored their determination to intensify the consolidated efforts of the Astana Process guarantor states to stabilise the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic as soon as possible, and agreed to remain in close contact.
