Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan

On June 15, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Türkiye Hakan Fidan, with the Turkish side initiating the conversation.

The foreign ministers exchanged views on the unprecedented escalation in the Middle East following Israel’s military action against Iran. Both parties were unanimous that it was imperative to cease the hostilities immediately and prevent a further spiral of violence with the most serious and unpredictable consequences for the entire region.

The Turkish side praised Russia’s unwavering resolve to act as intermediary to facilitate mutually acceptable solutions to existing disputes, including those related to the Iranian nuclear programme, as part of establishing sustainable talks.
