The 36^th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) will begin in Geneva on September 11.

The list of issues to be discussed includes the rights of indigenous peoples, the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, the fight against racism, the impact of racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance on women, the rights of older persons, the right to development, the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order, the use of mercenaries, as well as the human rights aspects of the fight against contemporary forms of slavery and enforced disappearances.

There will be country-specific discussions. In addition to discussing the situation of human rights in Ukraine and a report by the Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic, session participants will also discuss the human rights situation in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Libya, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sudan, South Sudan, the Central African Republic and Somalia.

Special Rapporteur Idriss Jazairy will present his report on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights in the Russian Federation.

The Russian Peace Foundation will hold side events on racism, xenophobia and hate crimes in Europe and on the infringement on the rights of children affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

The Russian delegation will encourage the further development of a constructive dialogue and the search for mutually acceptable solutions regarding the main items on the HRC agenda and will protest the politicisation of human rights and the use of human rights issues as a tool for political pressure.
