Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at talks with Raúl Fernando Sendic Rodríguez, Vice President and President of the General Assembly and Senate of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay

Mr Sendic, we are very happy to see you in Moscow. I know that this is not your first visit to Russia. But today you are here in your new role as Vice President of Uruguay. We appreciate this opportunity to meet at the Russian Foreign Ministry during your extremely busy stay in the Russian Federation. Russia and Uruguay share very close and often identical positions on many issues of international affairs.

We appreciated the recent interview President of Uruguay Tabaré Ramón Vázquez Rosas gave to a Russian television channel, in which he very clearly and unequivocally stated Uruguay’s commitment to furthering the partnership with Russia. We think along exactly the same lines.  

We hope that your participation in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum will make it possible to plan additional trade and economic projects of interest to businesses in Uruguay and Russia.

We will have a chance to discuss these issues today. I would like to welcome you once again.
