Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Jean-Marc Ayrault

On June 10, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke by phone with French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Jean-Marc Ayrault at the latter’s initiative.

The officials discussed efforts to overcome the crisis in Libya in the context of France’s presidency of the UN Security Council. Sergey Lavrov confirmed Russia’s readiness to actively assist efforts to achieve a settlement in Libya, and stressed that the principles outlined in the Skhirat agreement should be the basis of such a settlement and that all the country’s leading political forces should be involved in their implementation.

The ministers also discussed several aspects of Russian-French bilateral relations.
