Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu

On January 24, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu.

The ministers discussed the international meeting on the Syrian peace settlement in Astana. Both parties underscored the importance of establishing direct contacts between the Government of Syria and representatives of the armed opposition for strengthening the ceasefire and launching intra-Syrian dialogue as the only option for achieving peace in the Syrian Arab Republic.

The parties agreed to continue working with the Syrian participants in the Astana meeting to facilitate its successful conclusion and to prepare for resumed talks in Geneva on resolving the Syrian conflict.
