Press release on trilateral meeting between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister of the Republic of the Sudan Ibrahim Ghandour and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan Barnaba Marial Benjamin

On September 10, Moscow hosted a tripartite meeting between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister of the Republic of the Sudan Ibrahim Ghandour and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan Barnaba Marial Benjamin. The meeting was held at Russia’s initiative to facilitate the normalisation of inter-Sudan relations.

Meeting participants focused on the task of promoting an inter-Sudan peace settlement. Mr Ghandour and Mr Barnaba confirmed their determination to continue cooperating to completely fulfill the 2012 agreements between the Republic of the Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan, including the “road map” and the “cooperation protocol” regarding the final demarcation parametres.

Mr Barnaba and Mr Ghandour praised Mr Lavrov’s proposal on holding the inter-Sudan dialogue in Moscow and made a request to continue this cooperation on the inter-Sudan peace settlement in the tripartite format. It was emphasised that such cooperation would be called on to augment peacekeeping efforts and the mediatory mechanisms of the African Union and other international organisations.

Mr Lavrov, Mr Ghandour and Mr Barnaba exchanged opinions on ways to resolve the most serious crisis situations in the Horn of Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, including Yemen and Libya.
