Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov

On November 29, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a meeting with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov.

Their conversation focused on methods to overcome a deadlock in the Middle East peace process and to rally international efforts toward preventing the demolition of the international legal framework for the settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict. The officials expressed support for the two-state solution to the Palestinian problem, which has been approved by the overwhelming majority of UN member states and set out in UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions. It provides for the establishment of an independent state of Palestine with the capital in East Jerusalem that will live in peace and security with its neighbours. They also confirmed the need for relaunching direct talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Special Coordinator Nickolay Mladenov also met with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin for consultations.
